Let me start with, I am a nurse among a lot of things outside of this photography gig. I am nurse, and I have also witnessed birth multiple times, but documenting birth- this was a new one and I am in love. In a funny way, birth photography proved to be the perfect blend of my scientific brain and artistic brain. My best friend Emily messaged me early the other morning with the long awaited text “we are heading to the hospital”. I knew she had labored for almost 24 hours at home and being baby number three, wasn’t sure how quick this baby would arrive. So I too headed to the hospital soon after. When I got there, the atmosphere was one of calm but excitement. Emily was breathing through contractions. Then made her way into the shower to labor and once the tub was ready, finally into the birthing tub. It felt like 5 minutes between the Midwife saying we can break your water, your at a 9 to Emily delivering. Emily and Seth waited to find out the gender and it was a joyous moment when Seth annouced, “its a girl!” Guys this little “squishy” as I call her, is 8.59lbs of pure perfection. I think I was in such work mode while documenting the process, it wasn’t till I got home and started editing I was able to shed tears of joy and feelings of how proud of Emily I was. Emily made labor look easy, like too easy and she rocked that labor and delivery room.
